Playing Favorites

Reese Saxon

I remember as a kid everyone lining up along the edge of the playground and the two most popular kids picking who would play on their teams.  I was picked last, or nearly so.  Do you remember an experience like that?  It was hurtful.  The less popular girls would try to figure out a way to get the other girls to like them, but invariably someone would play favorites, and someone would get disappointed.

Then as I grew into Christian-hood, I thought surely this would stop.  It didn’t.  The prettiest singers would get the solo parts in choir, or those who were well-known by the director.  The drama club chose great Christian-based stories for the presentations, but who were playing the lead parts?  Yeah.  Those guys.  And finally I figured it out.  It will always be this way when we are competing for the choicest parts.  But do you know there is nobody competing to be the best YOU?

Yup.  No one can be a better you, than you.  Included in the package of what makes up you, are all the choicest, best parts of being you.  Then, when you put Jesus in your heart, you are actually representing the God of the Universe in your own skin!  One pastor told me, “Reese, Jesus is looking pretty good in His Reese suit today!”

Let’s look at Deuteronomy 10:17. “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.” No partiality!  No bribes! He loves us just the way we are, and loves us too much to leave us unfinished.  You’re chosen.  You’re loved.  You have a job to do that you, and only you, can do. The Captain of the team selected you.  Let’s get busy!

With Warm Affection;
